O: L wing still healing well but 2 areas of dehiscence present on the L wing - at the proximal aspect, causing tendon exposure, and a small area mid r/u. Flight tested bird on ground - bird flew much better than expected. Gave 0.17 ml torb IM. Cleaned cranial aspect of L wing and removed old sutures and scabbing. Applied lidocaine to wing site, closed proximal wound with horizontal mattress sutures and the more distal wound with simple continuous sutures. Had to clean scabbing off tendon that was exposure. Still not lufting this wing as well at shoulder. On ground, bird falls forward on face, seems ataxic, falls a little to the R - likely has a R wing droop as well but hard to assess due to the way bird is falling/trying to run. Covered scabbed area with dermagel, left wrap off for now to see what bird does in cage (esp as bird destroyed wrap) - may need to add wrap back, or add body wrap as well. L wing is slightly bruised with very mild scabbing. O: See surgery report for details. Debrided and sutured skin over R torn patagium - most of patagium gone on this wing but the tendons aside from the patagial tendon look intact. Placed fabric wrap over R wing, left L wing uncovered. Recovered uneventfully from anesthesia.
A: Prognosis very guarded too poor, concerned that bird has lost too much tissue on the R wing. Planning to give a little more time as the tendons for flight still seem intact.
P: Check sutures tom, monitor ability to hold/use R wing.

Covered all sites with duoderm gel, telfa/tegaderm, replaced both fabric wraps. Bird just letting both wings hang down from body without trying to flap or pull wings in during bandage changes. Mild trauma to plantar aspect of both feet where skin is lifting, no deep wounds. Drew blood from the medial metatarsal vein. A: Adult barred owl trapped in barbed wire, concerned that finder likely cut tendons to get bird out of wire as both tendons seem to be severed fairly cleanly. Right wing a little worse off than left and will need to monitor tissue die off before knowing prognosis for release. New studies in India showing that birds with patagial tendon injuries are being able to fly if they have enough patagium tissue leftover.
P: Rx TMS, Gabapentin, Meloxicam, fluids. Change wraps and bandages daily - clean and apply duogel, cover with telfa and tegaderm. SF in PM; start HF if DNE 12/4 AM. Collect blood, fecal, IOPs.
